Applied Optics Laser Safety Documents



In order to use lasers in AO / EEE:
  1. You must be conversant with the University Code of Practice for Laser Safety;
  2. A risk assessment / experiment registration form must exist for the location where you will be using lasers, and you must have read and understood this;
  3. You must understand and adhere to any specific written procedures or protocols for working with the relevant laser(s);
  4. You must be registered as a laser user (ask Steve or Matt for password);
  5. Either:
    1. You must complete the training program (online training registration scheme) and only operate lasers in accordance with your training; or:
    2. You must be supervised by a registered and qualified member of staff;
  6. You must understand access restrictions in designated laser areas and the operation of laboratory door interlocks;
  7. You must know the location and capabilities of laser safety equipment;
  8. You must only use registered lasers in accordance with the code of practice;
  9. You must maintain the documentation via the online forms on this website for yourself, your lasers and your experiments;
  10. You must be subscribed to the EE-optics mailing list (contact Steve Sharples).
