This page is intended as a guide for new PhD and EngD students joining the Optics and Photonics group.

Prior to your first day

Ensure registration at The University of Nottingham has been completed successfully.
Collect student card from registration.
Ensure you can access your University emails, on-line guides are available to assist with setting up university email on mobile devices.
Arrange to meet with supervisors.
Ask Supervisor to check if PC workstation has been ordered, new PhD and EngD students are entitled to a new machine, intended to last the length of their programme.
Using the portal service, check that you have entered your bank account details, this allows your Studentship to be paid each month.

First week

Meet with supervisors.
Once set-up with a new machine, ask to be given a username for the group Linux server. Contact Steve Sharples or Roger Light.
Collect key for building from the Facilities Manager, this requires a £20 deposit to be paid to The Science and Engineering Finance Office.

Contact the Business Operations Officer for the faculty of Engineering to request a copy of the Postgraduate Studentship Acceptance form. This must be completed and returned in order to be eligible for your studentship.

EngD specific

Contact industrial supervisor/sponsor company, with a view to arranging a meeting soon after the start date.
Soon after the start at Nottingham University you will be invited for an introduction from the RCNDE.
