Applied Optics Research Seminars

Regular research seminars will resume soon under the direction of Steve Sharples.

Dear all,

I am pleased to announce the resurrection of the Applied Optics Group Seminars - colloquially known as "Optical Lunches."

Time: Wednesdays at 1pm Place: Room 203, Tower (the Tower's only lecture theatre) Starting: Wednesday 14 October

I am going to need willing volunteers to give talks. I would also like folks to think of external speakers they would like to invite to give a talk. As a rough guide, academics might give a talk once every year or so, post-docs every year or two, postgrads once every two or three years. I'm very keen to get good external speakers.

Now that the Applied Optics Group is in multiple locations (in multiple buildings), it is more important than ever to keep everyone abreast of what's going on. The ever-increasing amount of cross-disciplinary work provides a fantastic opportunity for researchers to hear talks in new areas.

Talks are usually very informal---they can be as short as 15 minutes, though we have the room booked for an hour. Tea and biscuits will be available afterwards in the lab or office next door.

In the first instance I would like volunteers (or people to suggest volunteers, such as their students!) for Wednesdays between now and Christmas.

Firstly though, a question... every week, or once a fortnight?

More information to follow...

Cheers,

  Steve.
