Heart Rate Monitoring on Newborn Babies During Resuscitation
PhD student: Shiemaa Sidahmed
Project Supervisor: Barrie Hayes-Gill, John Crowe, Roger Light
Project Brief:
The motivation for this project is to build a device that can measure the heart rate of new born babies during the resuscitation process in the delivery room. Standard ECG sensors (with gel layer) cannot be used on the babies’ immature skin since it can cause skin damage and sometimes leave permanent marks on the babies’ chest. The aim of this project is to investigate other skin friendly alternatives that can replace the use of harmful gel ECG leads and the traditional stethoscope in the delivery room.
